Yours were probably some of the same tired old F-4N's with a new coat of paint that got sent to VF-201. I was Maintenance Officer. Oy vay!

We only collected a handful of real Fighter RIO's to fly with us airline gypsies who were always hanging around to fly, and the rest were any kind of NFO. Oy vay was us. Had to have someone back there to at least reset circuit brakers, and initially it was often us piloten types.



On top of that, the All Wise Head Reservistas sent us a real West Coast F-4 TAR to be skipper, which disrupted the succession to command. Disruption was an understatement. Long sad story which led me to take my bat, ball, glove, unload and depart at high mach. Knothead. But I wasn't by myself.



The good part is that I was in the first contingent to go thru F-4 NAMO in Oceana. We had a real PCAG go thru with our group, and it took him aback somewot. Our Regular Nav liason was a LT, was our buddy, and to say we were a little salty is an understatement. Plus, FUBIJAR (Frabbit, Buddy, I'm Just a Reserve!) and recently former Crusader pilots. We had the gauge to all the exams, would inform the poor Snuffy explaining the J-79 that we didn't need to know that !00% was multiple digit and decimal point times around the rotating shaft, etc.



The Oceana O'Club was right jolly back back then,



Then, the best part: a couple of us were going to sent to Key West for our flying. My hand shot up, and rank (relative) had its priviledge.



The VF-101 Det Key West had to be the best duty in the Navy, Show up for a couple of hops in the morning, then bugger off to sail and fish in the afternoon. Evenings? They had a Rolodex on the Duty Officer's desk that listed all the good places to eat, drink, and wotever.



The best good news was that Flying was GREAT!



For our first squadron summer cruise, guess where we went? Only Miramar or Key West could dick with our ancient radar…..



It was a great cruise. DACT with Tinker Adversaries, tankers between engagements, and we only lost one airplane. They ran themselves out of gas (centerline tank backup autotransfer dinna work (either) and they didn't catch it until they were rendezvousing after a fight and it got real quiet. They had the good sense to punch out over the Carib version of the Marianas Trench some whole bunch of fathoms way deep. Sadly unrecoverable. Crew got hypnotized for WTF and howcum.

They would come in at 40 K + and call Fox 1 look down, shoot down overland. ???? Say what ? As a 727 capitano, it turned out that I had a number of USAF Eagle drivers in the right seat. Their heartbeats would approach tachyhcardiac describing both they and the Bad Guys pointing at each other and juking their missile arcs, playing standoff games on their scopes. I pretended to be swept up.

Nupe. Neither was I swept up at hud gunsight shots that were passing high angle off pipper passes thru the target.

Kills? Not in my day.

A man, an avid golfer, became stranded on a deserted island, totally alone. After several years of observing many beautiful golden sunsets, the man had become extremely wanting of female companionship and of course, missed his golf. Then one day, when there was a particularly beautiful sunset happening, he noticed something in the distance, in the water, working it's way towards the shore in front of him. As this something got closer , he's realized that it was a person swimming into shore. As the person neared the shoreline and stood up in the the waves to walk onto the beach, it didn't take long for him to realize that it was a gorgeous blond in a tight wetsuit with rather large breasts. She exited the water and walked up to him with a rather sexy look and addressed him...

"Have you been stranded here long?" she asked the man.

"Why yes, I have...so long that I have no idea exactly how long anymore" said the castaway.

"Would you like a smoke?" Ask the woman.

"Why yes, I would love a smoke" said the man excitedly.

The woman unzipped her wetsuit down to a point that revealed most of her voluptuous breasts and reached in one side to pull out a pack of cigs and matches.

As the man satisfyingly lit up, the woman asked him...

"Would you like a shot of Scotch with that smoke?"

The man, shaking with excitement at this point, said "Oh god yes, would I ever..."

The woman reached in to the other side of her wetsuit to retrieve two shot glasses and bottle of 18 year old Glenlivet single malt.

At this point, the man almost began to cry as she poured two shots of the Scotch and joined him in several drinks.

As he finished his cig and nearly half of the Scotch had been consumed, the woman approached the man closer, unzipping her wetsuit down to her waist, she smiled at him, tilted her head slightly and spoke to the man softly...

"Would you like to play a round? She asked.

The man nearly fell to his knees as he shreaked out to the woman.....

"You have a set of golf clubs in there too?????"

*Coronacoaster*

The ups and downs of your mood during the pandemic. You're loving lockdown one minute but suddenly weepy with anxiety the next. It truly is "an emotional coronacoaster".



*Quarantinis*

Experimental cocktails mixed from whatever random ingredients you have left in the house. The boozy equivalent of a store cupboard supper. Southern Comfort and Ribena quarantini with a glacé cherry garnish, anyone? These are sipped at "locktail hour", ie. wine o'clock during lockdown, which seems to be creeping earlier with each passing week.



*Blue Skype thinking*

A work brainstorming session which takes place over a videoconferencing app. Such meetings might also be termed a "Zoomposium". Naturally, they are to be avoided if at all possible.



*Le Creuset wrist*

It's the new "avocado hand" - an aching arm after taking one's best saucepan outside to bang during the weekly 'Clap For Carers.' It might be heavy but you're keen to impress the neighbours with your high-quality kitchenware.



*Coronials*

As opposed to millennials, this refers to the future generation of babies conceived or born during coronavirus quarantine. They might also become known as "Generation C" or, more spookily, "Children of the Quarn".



*Furlough Merlot*

Wine consumed in an attempt to relieve the frustration of not working. Also known as "bored-eaux" or "cabernet tedium".



*Coronadose*

An overdose of bad news from consuming too much media during a time of crisis. Can result in a panicdemic.



*The elephant in the Zoom*

The glaring issue during a videoconferencing call that nobody feels able to mention. E.g. one participant has dramatically put on weight, suddenly sprouted terrible facial hair or has a worryingly messy house visible in the background.



*Quentin Quarantino*

An attention-seeker using their time in lockdown to make amateur films which they're convinced are funnier and cleverer than they actually are.



*Covidiot* or *Wuhan-ker*

One who ignores public health advice or behaves with reckless disregard for the safety of others can be said to display "covidiocy" or be

"covidiotic". Also called a "lockclown" or even a "Wuhan-ker".



*Goutbreak*

The sudden fear that you've consumed so much wine, cheese, home-made cake and Easter chocolate in lockdown that your ankles are swelling up like a medieval king's.



*Antisocial distancing*

Using health precautions as an excuse for snubbing neighbours and generally ignoring people you find irritating.



*Coughin' dodger*

Someone so alarmed by an innocuous splutter or throat-clear that they back away in terror.



*Mask-ara*

Extra make-up applied to "make one's eyes pop" before venturing out in public wearing a face mask.



*Covid-10*

The 10 lbs. in weight that we're all gaining from comfort-eating and comfort-drinking. Also known as "fattening the curve".

Wisconsin



On April 7, they held voting day - in person. There was a lot of press that this would cause a spike in virus cases. It did not happen. Be cautious, not fearful.



WHO vs. Sweden



Less than two weeks ago, the WHO - the organization the media tells us it the ultimate truth in all medical things, and the media has been dead wrong over and over again - condemned Sweden for failing to follow their guidelines, especially about lock down, etc. Sweden has used simple social distancing, and common sense precautions instead, and now has one of if not the lowest rate of virus in the world. Suddenly, the WHO has reversed itself, and now holds Sweden as the model for us all to follow. Interesting how stories change as the political winds move, isn't it?



Congress

Under the direction of Queen Nancy, etc. they have refused to go to work. They pretend that they are being safe. But, in truth, they are refusing to do anything, lest they be blamed. Let Trump do the heavy lifting, and be blamed. If he should succeed, they will still criticize him.



DC Police

They have refused to investigate the claims of Tara Reade against Joe Biden. 'The case is inactive.' Guess Guido and Vinnie paid a visit to their chief, and suggested that it would be in their best interest to ignore this equal justice stuff, or else.



While democrats and the media ignore the claims, and proclaim their undying support for Senile Joe, some networks and lesser media have kept the story of his exploits alive and well. Joe is being forced to hold a press conference tomorrow to address the matter. No doubt he has been well coached, and has a wonderful list of excuses to present. But, Joe cannot be trusted to stay on script, or even remember it. It will be interesting to see what he really says and does.



NYC

This city has the highest death rate from the virus. Most of the deaths are in the elderly, and those with previous medical conditions. So, one has to wonder: why did the state demand, and force nursing homes to take back patients who tested positive for the virus, and put them in homes filled with elderly, often sick people? And, then demand that the homes, not the state, provide the medical equipment and PPE needed to work with these folks? This is not just irresponsible, it is tantamount to murder. Many of their deaths were among this group of people. Your government cannot, and will not look after you. Even when they have the equipment , facilities and trained people, they cannot be bothered.



Washington State

They voted to release a lot of criminals as their part of dealing with this virus. One criminal lost his chance for freedom by a 5-4 vote of the judges. That is close - and why is this scary? The prisoner was the infamous 'Green River Killer'. A man who was convicted of murdering 49 women, and claims twice that many. He was sentenced to 500 years without possibility of parole. Imagine if he was back on the streets after years in prison? Remember, the people doing this care about you, and especially about the safety and welfare of women.



Confucius Institutes

These are 'student organizations' on just about every campus that has Chinese students. They are supposed to be about teaching Chinese language and culture to students who come here to learn. But, of course, that is just a cover story. Students are 'encouraged' to attend, by the people who pay their tuition and other costs. And, those people know where you live, and also who your family is, and where they live. So, when your generous government asks a small favor of you, like collecting information and passing it back to them, how can you refuse? Finally, some people here have figured this out, and there is a movement to ban these institutes, kick them out of the schools and country. Perhaps we will, and then they will just go underground and change their name, as always.



California

Okay, they need some PPE, like masks, since they 'lost' or destroyed all they had. Some of their stock was sold to - China - what irony. There are US companies that make these, at a reasonable cost. But, Governor Newsome, wanting to feel good about his role as an international leader (in his own mind), decided to outsource his supplier. He doesn't want to deal with any American companies, especially any that might actually support Trump or America, now does he? So, where did he go?



Why, to China - you know, where the virus came from. The place where when we did get some PPE and tests, they were all defective Chinese knock-off products.



But, it gets better. He did not contract with a textile company. No, no. He went to a bankrupt car company, who was making electric cars that didn't work. Kind of like the Chevy Volt here. The Volt had issues with batteries, and they sometimes burst into flames for no apparent reason. The Volt was made in Maryland, with the enthusiastic support of - Joe Biden. In any case, this Chinese company has a history of failing to make stuff as ordered, or delivering as promised. So, Gov Newsome gave them $1 billion of his taxpayer money. Just to make the deal sweet. He paid more than double the price an American company charges for the same product. And, sure enough, he did get delivery of some product. So far, we do not know if these masks are as good as, or if they are more defective Chinese junk. But, it does not matter. So long as we can feel good about showing 'diversity' and 'racial equality', or whatever other buzz word is current on the left coast these days. We can always dump them on the homeless, so we can feel even better about how we look after people, right?

George Carlin's wife died early in 2008 and George followed her, dying in July 2008. It is ironic George Carlin - comedian of the '70s and '80s - could write something so very eloquent and so very appropriate.



An observation by George Carlin:





The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.



We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom. We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.



We've learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to life not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit delete.



Remember to spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever.



Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side.



Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn't cost a cent.



Remember, to say, 'I love you' to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you.



Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again.



Give time to love, give time to speak! And give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.



And always remember, life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by those moments that take our breath away.
