Subject: Fwd: Thunderbirds near miss

You may have already sent this out, Skip, but just in case, here it is.  Looks like the screw up is all on #1 - probably because he wasn't talking to the others and his rather abrupt roll out of the left turn screws up virtually all the wing pilots and especially the solo types on the outer edge of the delta.  Then you have the TV announcer who is either completely clueless as to what just happened or he's trying to "polish the turd" after the fact.  Outlaw out...

'Mighty Eighth' Air Force documentary premiers Thursday - Task & Purpose

"Heroes of the Sky: The Mighty Eighth Air Force" will air 9 p.m. Thursday on National Geographic

WWII documentary about 'The Mighty Eighth' Air Force to premiere on NatGeo

STEVE NOVAK, THE EXPRESS-TIMES, EASTON, PA.

MAY 20, 2020

A day of World War II documentaries devoted to the 75th anniversary of victory in Europe will be anchored by an Easton production company's latest work.

Lou Reda Productions' two-hour special, "Heroes of the Sky: The Mighty Eighth Air Force" will air 9 p.m. Thursday on National Geographic.

It is one of two primetime premieres concluding a day programming devoted to the European front and commemorating V-E Day, which was May 8, 1945.

National Geographic, in a news release, describes "Heroes of the Sky" as "recollections of the brave men from the U.S. Eighth Air Force who entered the cockpit mission after mission, knowing that their call to duty was a likely death sentence.

Integrating the airmen's own words from personal diary entries, letters to loved ones and previous interviews, the special seamlessly draws from more than 1,000 hours of rare and never-before-seen intimate footage to tell the incredible story of the heroic figures in 'The Mighty Eighth.'"

One voice in particular might sound familiar to fans of Easton Area High School football: Former running back Kyle Bambary, an associate producer on the project, supplied the audio track for one of the military men portrayed in the documentary.

Wartime archival footage is a specialty for Lou Reda Productions, which is named for the company's late founder and now run by his family out of a church-turned-production-studio in Downtown Easton.

Among Lou Reda's proudest works were 2014's "Brothers in War" for NatGeo and 2009's "WWII in HD," an Emmy-winning 10-part miniseries for The History Channel.

I found it Tonight at 9PM Pacific there is a film called the Heroes of the sky The mighty Eighth

It is on the National Geographic Channel It has some great reviews. My Uncle was a B-17 pilot and survived to fly over 35 missions.

Testimony of Pilot: The Silver Waterfall (5)

As per past practice, this is an announcement for the latest post on rememberedsky.com

I'll begin by hoping this finds you healthy, safe, AND sane.

My latest post provides a excerpt from Kevin Miller's new book THE SILVER WATERFALL: A Novel of the Battle of Midway  -

CHAPTER 13 - Torpedo Eight, North of Midway, 0825 June 4, 1942.

Kevin is a retired naval aviator Captain who started his career in an A-7 Corsair squadron commanded by Bob Sanderson who was in VA-56 with me in 1972-73 during Linebacker I and II. He went on to command an F/A-18 squadron. He has three previous fiction books centered on flying Hornets - the Raven One series.  The last, Fight centers on fictional conflict with China in the South China Sea, All highly recommended.

I was really honored to be asked by Kevin to read an early draft and comment. I've been fascinated with Midway for years and If you check my website at all you know that there are multiple posts focused on the battle's history on the site in the '42 - Year of the Carrier series.

Kevin's telling was just outstanding!

In telling the story of the men and events of Midway, his approach follows that  of the highly acclaimed – 1975 Pulitzer Prize for fiction – The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara. Nothing in the events of the story is fiction; rather his approach  gives human feelings, thoughts,  and words to players at multiple levels during the June 1942 battle, as Shaara did for Lee, Longstreet, and Joshua Chamberlain and the soldiers at the Little Round Top battle at Gettysburg. As a former A-7 Corsair attack aviator and commanding officer of a F/A-18 strike fighter squadron, he knows well the human internal and external context of the combat pilot – with the not so common ability to express in an exceptional manner.

1.  US Has Seen No Increase in Overall Deaths in 2020 –

Yet Americans Continue to Cede All God Given Rights to the State

By Joe Hoft    The Gateway Pundit    Published May 9, 2020

Americans are faced with the following choice – continue to follow the government mandated lock down while watching their life savings erode (based on faulty projections and models regarding the China coronavirus) – or get back to work.

At the site Unconstrained Analytics, the Matrix is explained and today's reaction to the China coronavirus as well:

Real science neither requires nor asks for assent. In contrast, pseudo-sciences, demand obedience to the narratives they propagate — even when these narratives conflict with hard science.

It's time for America to wake up and look at the real numbers behind the China coronavirus.  If we are truly experiencing a "historic" pandemic with unprecedented deaths then this should be obvious in the data.  We should see our total deaths for the first four months of 2020 greatly exceed the previous years' numbers  where there was no pandemic, but this is not the case.

The CDC website indicates U.S. death totals for 2015 through 2020 for the first four months of the year average (Jan – Apr) to be at 921,603.  This year the total deaths during this period were 944,251 which is slightly more than average but slightly less than the number of deaths in 2017

(Note – to obtain below data we summed up all deaths for weeks 1 through 16 for each year from the data in the CDC website):

YEAR

TOTAL DEATHS

2015-16

878,457

2016-17

919,548

2017-18

946,067

2018-19

919,693

2019-20

944,251

Average 2015-20

921,603

We know that 99% of all COVID deaths are related to individuals with more than one other comorbidity (i.e. the individuals had cancer or some other medical condition).  We also know that the majority of COVID deaths are those people over age 70.

Children are virtually free from any risk of death from the China coronavirus.  Healthy individuals under the age of 65 are also at very low risk.

When looking at the data it is difficult to understand why the US (and the world for that matter) would close down their economies for this virus. The economies stayed open in 2017 and the number of deaths were greater.

It's time to wake up and see that we were lied to and continue to be lied to.  The current response to the coronavirus is madness.  Liberty is at stake.

2.  President of Tanzania Didn't Trust WHO So He Sent Samples of Sheep, Goats,

Bunny, Trees, Fruit and Car Oil for COVID Testing — The Results Are In . . .

By Jim Hoft   The Gateway Pundit   Published May 11, 2020

The President of Tanzania John Magufuli did not trust the World Health Organization or their coronavirus testing.

President Magufuli is also a chemist. So President Magufuli submitted several samples to the WHO for testing.

President Magufuli: "We took samples from goats. We sent samples from sheeps. We took samples from pawpaws. We sent samples from car oil. And we took samples from other different things. And we took the samples to the laboratory without them knowing. And we even named all the samples. Like the sample of car oil. We named it Jabil Hamza, 30 years old, male. The results came back negative. When we took a sample from a Jackfruit (Durian) we named it Sarah Samuel, 45 years old, female. The results came back inconclusive. When we took samples from a Pawpaw we named it Elizabeth Ane, 26 years old, female. The result from the Pawpaw came back positive that it has corona. That means the liquid from a pawpaw is positive. We took samples from (a bird) called Kware. The results came back positive. We took samples from a rabbit. The results came back undeterminent. We took samples from a goat and the results came back positive. We took samples from a sheep and it came back negative and so on and so on. And so now you see this you have taken samples and the results come back positive and they have the corona. That means all the pawpaws should be in isolation also… The goat should be in isolation also."

This is quite funny and insightful at the same time, since it demonstrates how unreliable the WHO tests for #COVID19 are… Presidents of some undeveloped countries appear to have more common sense & healthy skepticism than those of developed countries. https://t.co/RSZc9HnM0s

Skip, I assume the article about our lack of progress in space programs in the last 7 years signed by Burt,  is Burt Rutan. ?

At Oshkosh several years ago, MZ. B and I attended a presentation by Burt R on the general subject of past and future space exploration. During the Q& A session some wrinkly codger asked Burt why we were pursuing manned space when unmanned trips would be simpler, less expensive, less risk, etc. Burt, in his biue chambray shirt, Levis, and porkchop sideburns thought about 10 seconds and responded "do you think we should ever take the human mind out of real time space exploration  ? "

The Witteman-Lewis XNBL-1 (popularly known as the "Barling Bomber") was an ambitious heavy bomber design from Walter Barling, an engineer with the United States Army Air Service. The aircraft was designed to a US Chief of Staff requirement calling for a long-range strategic bomber. Despite its advanced features, the XNBL-1 failed to impress and was limited to a single constructed prototype model. At the time of its production, the Barling Bomber was the largest aircraft in the world.

Walter Barling had already accumulated experience in the design of large aircraft with his involvement in the failed Tarrant Tabor, another multi-engine large bomber triplane design for Britain.

The Barling Bomber was designed with a cylindrical-shaped fuselage - in some ways reminiscent of the forthcoming Boeing B-29 Superfortress. The mammoth aircraft sported a triplane wing to which no fewer than six engines were affixed. Engines were of the Liberty L-12A type and developed roughly 420 horsepower a piece. The powerplants were arranged with four of them in a tractor "puller" layout and the remaining two utilized as "pusher" systems. See More.

Barling XNBL-1 Specifications: Armament: Seven .30-cal. machine guns and up to 5,000 lbs. of bombs Engines: Six Liberty 12-A engines (420 hp each) Cruising speed: 61 mph Top speed: 96 mph (sea level) Service ceiling: 7,725 ft. Range: Approx. 170 miles with full bomb load Span: 120 ft. Length: 65 ft. Height: 27 ft. Crew: 6 to 7.

The Bomber Mafia were a close-knit group of American military men who believed that long-range heavy bomber aircraft in large numbers were able to win a war. The derogatory term 'Bomber Mafia' was used before and after World War II by those in the military who did not share their belief, and who were frustrated by the insistence of the men that the heavy bomber should take a primary position in planning and funding.

Robert Olds (June 15, 1896 – April 28, 1943) was a general officer in the United States Army Air Forces, theorist of strategic air power, and proponent of an independent United States Air Force. Olds is best known today as the father of Brig. Gen. Robin Olds, a "triple ace" fighter pilot of World War II and the Vietnam War.

He became an instructor at the Air Corps Tactical School between 1928 and 1931, the crucial period when the theory of strategic bombardment achieved ascendancy within the Air Corps as the most effective use of airpower. With eight colleagues at the Air Corps Tactical School (ACTS), he was known as a member of the "Bomber Mafia," whose influence led to adoption of the theory as the doctrine of daylight precision bombing during World War II.

Despite his advocacy for strategic bombing, when the United States entered World War II, Olds did not command bombers in the field. Instead his major contribution was creation and organization of the Air Corps Ferrying Command, whose task was delivery of newly produced aircraft to all parts of the globe, and which eventually became the Air Transport Command and successors. Health problems resulted in his transfer to a training command and led to his early death in 1943.
