(26) Lost '50s Cult Film Made by Real Fighter Pilots is Hilarious - YouTube

.  I first saw this in NROTC at the University of Nebraska in the early 1960's, and thought it was hilarious.  The one that was played had an official Navy number, I believe it was MN-909X.  I've searched for it for years, and never found it until you posted it.  Good memories!

A BIT MORE ON THEN Balloon shoot down

Thanks to BOP … but still would hate to get hit by one!!!

If the missile cannot reach the target (i.e target is lost or passed without fusing) the guidance section safes the warhead and streamlines its fins (stops guiding).   Even if it falls on a hard surface the warhead will not detonate.

[And what happens to folks on the ground if the missile doesn't explode and lands downtown? - RS]

One would use a heat seeking missile against a target that was actively giving off some sort of heat, I would think. WH Spokespersons have stated these objects were "non-propelled." So if the device didn't have a heat producing engine, what's the heat source? The big white balloon shot down over the SC coast would have reflected enough sunlight to get a Sidewinder all excited, but these smaller ones may not have. The one over Lake Huron took two missiles to bag it, as the first one missed. Why didn't they use their guns to down them? A 20mm bullet costs far less than a $400K AIM-9! Our current AF pilots are obviously not schooled in Cost-Benefit Analysis. I'm shocked! Shocked I tell you. Marines are far more cost conscious than these free wheeling throw money at the problem AF pilots.

As a matter of fact, a short burst of 20mm could have punctured small enough holes in the original balloon to bring it down, slowly, over Montana, where we could have recovered the entire device, relatively intact. But noooooo, these pilots are more attuned to gender affirmation and CRT than they are critical thinking. The AF Fighter Weapons School is probably even now frantically developing anti-balloon tactics.

The huge balloon was spared over Montana because it displayed no offensive actions. What offensive actions did it take over Folly Beach to warrant its televised death?

But that's just me thinking! I'll stop now. No point in using up all my great ideas at once. Who knows how many one is allotted.
